Every doll needs pretty summery pyjamas. This design is a knitting pattern which includes instructions to create a pair of short pyjamas (sleeveless top with a lacey collar) and 3/4 shorts. There is a lacey stitch on the hem of the shorts, top and collar. Construction of the top: The top is knitted flat from hem upwards in one piece and separated at the armholes, then each section (left front, back and right front) are knitted separately. There is a front closure with 3 buttons. The pants: Starting with both legs then joined together to create the crotch and upper part of the pants. There are eyelet rows at the waist band and also at the end of the lacey pattern rows on the pants. You can either insert an I-cord or a ribbon. This specially designed version, by Forever 18 Inches, for 18" dolls features a working "Trap Door," ribbed leg and arm cuffs, a bomber-jacket style neck, and a button-covered front and back that close with snaps or Hook-and-Loop. Options for hemmed pant legs and a plain back without the Trap Door are also included in the PDF pattern for those who want a simpler project. Also, good news for those with older dolls: the pajamas have been cut generously, and will fit most larger dolls. ( They easily accommodate an 11" waist and 12-1/2" hips, but do check your doll's measurements to be sure.)

The Emily nightdress pattern, by Genniewren Designs, is based on a traditional floor length Victorian style nightgown and can be made with or without a ruffle at the hem edge.

The PDF sewing pattern also offers the more modern option of pyjamas, with two styles of PJ bottoms to choose from: traditional full length straight leg pyjama pants, and ruffled bloomers.

The nightgown and pyjama top fasten at the back neck with a button and loop. There is a choice of two sleeve lengths, and the sleeves can be smocked or elasticated at the cuff to control the fullness.
